Resources: Neighborhood Associations |
Vickery Place Neighborhood Association
http://www.vpna.org/
Vickery Place was first platted in 1911, when it was a new suburb
far on the outskirts of Dallas. The presence of a streetcar line
into the heart of the neighborhood made it a success. Within
its boundaries are the best concentration of Craftsman bungalows
in Dallas. Vickery Place has been a hotbed of renovation activity
in recent years. |
Swiss Avenue Historic District
http://www.sahd.org/
When Munger Place was platted in 1905, Swiss Avenue was deed-restricted
in order to ensure it would have the largest and finest homes
in the subdivision. A group of property owners saved the street
from being rezoned in the 1950's and 1960's, although the rezoning
virtually destroyed the fine homes along nearby blocks of Live
Oak and Gaston Avenue. The historic district is just two miles
northeast of the Dallas Central Business District. |
Munger Place Historic District Association
http://www.mungerplace.com/
Munger Place got its start back in 1905. The area suffered a
severe decline during the era of "redlining" in the
1950's and 1960's, but today it has been mostly restored to its
original magnificence. |
Hollywood/Santa Monica Neighborhood Association
http://www.hsmna.com/
Construction in Hollywood began in the late 1920's, and it is
roughly contemporary with Greenland Hills. Most of Santa Monica
dates to the post-depression years. The two subdivisions are
located just north of Tenison Park. Like the Lower Greenville
areas, these neighborhoods have many Tudor Cottages, Craftsman
Bungalows, and Colonial Cottages. The terrain is more "hilly"
than the Lower Greenville neighborhoods. |

Information About Oak Cliff
http://www.oakcliff.com/
Many of the neighborhoods in Oak Cliff (Kessler Park, Winnetka
Heights, Kidd Springs, and so on) are of similar age, and have
similar architecture, compared to neighborhoods in the area descrobed
here at m-street-dallas.com. If your business takes you out the
I-30 corridor, or if you prefer the quieter, more "laid-back"
ambience of Oak Cliff, this site by Alan C. Elliott has good
information for you. |
Winnetka Heights Historic District
http://www.winnetkaheights.com/
Winnetka Heights is not located within the boundaries served
by this web site, but it is very similar to Munger Place. Homes
in Winnetka Heights are a logical choice for the historic-minded
homebuyer who finds an Oak Cliff location is particularly convenient
to his workplace. Winnetka Heights is about ten minutes southwest
of the Dallas Central Business District. |
